Perry is born the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first TV roles included two roles on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in her role on the ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mom. Her parents, however, did not let her perform until she reached the age of adulthood because of the effects stress would be able to have on their daughter. Perry claimed that she was too shy to act during high school, but started performing at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer to the university from Boston University. Perry moved to New York, where she landed small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Homesickness then caused Perry back to California, where theater jobs were available. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. Perry was in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie as well as Kevin McKidd. This was presented in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry was in nine episodes of The Family, an ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. She had a regular role in the ABC drama about politics Scandal that starred her dad. The actress was also featured on the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother. She was cast in the role in an audition that was open despite being a fan of the role.
